Together against the cold: Caritas and SK Rapid help Viennese poverty
A remarkable cooperation between the Vienna Caritas and the SK Rapid soccer club was recently announced. In the Allianz Stadium in Vienna-Hütteldorf, a Caritas food distribution center now opens up, which benefits heavily disadvantaged people in the region. This initiative offers support in the form of food and hygiene articles for almost 80 people.
The Caritas director Klaus Schwertner emphasized that team spirit and strategic thinking are indispensable in football as in everyday life and strategic thinking in order to cope with social challenges. "As in football, we need a strong team spirit and a good tactic in real life," said Schwertner, adding: "Already at the kick -off it is 1-0 against poverty today." This statement illustrates how important it is to compete against social inequalities.
necessary support in winter
The cold season is particularly challenging for many people affected by poverty. Increasing living and energy costs are under pressure. "In the cold season, many people face the question: eating or heating?" Salkner noticed. Caritas offers help in its 15 Le+O issuing offices in Vienna and Lower Austria by providing food that is often saved from the garbage, as well as hygiene material and social counseling.
This initiative is not only private, but also shows the ecological responsibility of those involved. Schwertner emphasized that the strong support of hundreds of volunteers enables donors to fill refrigerators and relieve the needy's household finances. "So the project shows great social and ecological effects," he said.
Steffen Hofmann, Managing Director of SK Rapid, underlined the commitment of the Association for Social Projects. "It goes without saying for us to provide our premises here in the Allianz Stadium for a good cause," said Hofmann. This type of commitment is part of the long -term cooperation between Caritas and SK Rapid, which also includes annual donations in kind and free tickets for the needy.
This initiative and will for collaboration are more important than ever, especially in times when more and more people are dependent on support. The food distribution point in the Allianz Stadium represents another positive step in the fight against poverty and social inequality, and shows how we can move a little together through solidarity action.
