New hospital in Vienna-Josefstadt: sustainability and 120 beds

Vienna-Josefstadt faces a significant change in the health sector. The construction of a joint new building for the private clinics confraternity and the Golden Cross was officially decided. As announced in a current message, the architectural firm Baumschlager Eberle has won the desired realization competition. The new hospital will be built on the site of previous confraternity in the Skodagasse, while medical operation will continue in the Golden Cross in Lazarettgasse during the construction period from mid -2026 to 2028.

Particular attention is paid to the planned equipment of the new hospital. There will be a total of 120 beds, of which 80 percent are single rooms. Six operating theaters, two endoscopy rooms, four delivery rooms and a day clinic center are planned. In terms of energy efficiency, care is taken into account and renewable energies will play a central role. The heat supply is to be ensured by geothermal energy, supplemented by a photovoltaic system on the roof.

The architect Wildfeuer has presented the plans for a health -promoting architecture, which should shine with a lot of natural light and the principle of sustainability. In addition, green roof terraces, loggias and facade greening will help improve the microclimate and promote biodiversity. A publicly accessible garden is created, which serves both the needs of the hospital and the neighborhood and acts as a recreational landscape in the Josefstadt district.

The private clinics confraternity and golden cross are part of the Premiqamed Group, which also includes the Döbling private clinic in Vienna and several facilities in Salzburg and Graz. In this group of companies are employed by around 2,000 employees who are committed to health care.

This development is not only a big project for the hospital sector in Vienna, but also a step towards a modern and sustainable health architecture in the region.
