New garage package: 185 parking spaces for Josefstadt residents – but 300 are missing!
Parking spaces in Josefstadt have become a scarce resource since the Astoria Garage closed. This garage, which has been available to residents for 89 years, was closed a year ago due to the owners' illness. The consequences are noticeable: in a district that already suffers from a lack of parking space, 300 parking spaces were simply lost. In order to counteract this problem, the “garage package” has now been launched, which creates 185 new parking spaces through cooperation with various parking garage operators.
District leader Martin Fabisch (Greens) commented on these measures: “The offer is intended to help make better use of existing capacities that are available in the area.” The new parking spaces can be found at several locations in and around the 8th district. These include, among others:
- Stiftgasse 5-9, 7. Bezirk: 20 Plätze für Dauerparker
- Universitätsstraße, 9. Bezirk: 20 Plätze für Dauerparker
- Otto-Wagner Platz, 9. Bezirk: 100 Plätze für Nachtparker (Montag bis Freitag von 17 Uhr bis 8:30 Uhr, am Wochenende ganztags)
- Franz Josef Kai 1, 1. Bezirk: 15 Plätze für Dauerparker
- Schlesingerplatz, 8. Bezirk: 15 Plätze für Dauerparker
- Pfeilgasse 20, 8. Bezirk: 5 Plätze für Dauerparker
- Burggasse 85, 7. Bezirk: 10 Plätze für Dauerparker
The challenges of finding a parking space
Despite these new parking options, the parking situation remains tense. 100 fewer places than before have to be compensated for. "The Astoria Garage had both long-term and short-term parking spaces and was not always at capacity. We hope that the 185 new parking spaces will significantly improve the situation," emphasized Fabisch.
Wolfgang Richter, marketing manager at “WiPark” Garages, points out that there are no locations of their own in the 8th district. Therefore, parking spaces can only be offered from neighboring districts, which may not be the ideal solution for some residents.
For those interested in a new parking space, the costs are between 99 and 242 euros. Additional conditions apply: Only people who are registered in Josefstadt can take advantage of this offer and must conclude a new contract.
