Vienna Radhighway: Safe and Grüner Weg from Kagran to the heart of the city

Vienna lifts its cycling infrastructure to a new level with an ambitious project that includes a seven -kilometer -long bike highway. This path extends from Kagran to the heart of the city and should not only welcome cyclists, but also offer pedestrians a safe environment. The bike path, which is currently being finalized in the Danube city, is over four meters wide and thus offers enough space for everyone who is traveling by bike.

The project is part of a comprehensive cycle path offensive that aims to promote bicycle traffic in Vienna and to support sustainable mobility. The new, wide bike paths that were completed on Praterstrasse and Lassallestrasse are particularly striking. Another goal is to improve the connection between these sections on the Praterstern, which is to be tackled in the coming year.

reduction of conflict situations

One of the central concerns of this initiative is the redesign of the Praterstern/Nordbahnstrasse intersection. This intersection is currently a delicate point for cyclists as well as pedestrians, since everyone has to move in a small space. In the future, it is planned to set up a separate cycle path and your own zebra crossing. This should significantly increase the security at this critical point.

In addition, the cycling crossing is widened, which enables better leadership of cycling. The areas for pedestrians as well as cyclists are also enlarged so that there is more space for everyone. Traffic light circuits are adjusted and it is planned to integrate new greenery, which improves environmental quality and the cityscape.

green spaces for a better cityscape

Another aspect of the project is the creation of new green areas, which should benefit both the environment and the well -being of the city dwellers. A new street park will be built along Wagramer Straße, which is over 250 meters long and will accommodate around 100 trees. In the Danube city, over 8,000 square meters of new green areas are to be created that not only upgrade the cityscape, but also contribute to improving the microclimate.

The new Radhighway now connects three districts. This enables cyclists to commute faster and more comfortably between the Danube city and the city center. The Viennese politicians, district leaders Alexander Nikolai and mobility councilor Ulli Sima from the SPÖ, emphasize the importance of these measures in order to improve security and comfort for all road users, especially at critical points such as the Praterstern.

More details on the development of the Radhighway and to adjacent projects can be found in a report at www.meinbezirk.at .
