Vienna celebrates Halloween: Economic opportunities for local dealers
Halloween, the annual scary event, already throws its shadows ahead and illuminates an exciting interest among the young people in Vienna. A current survey, carried out by the Vienna Chamber of Commerce (WKW), shows that about a quarter of those under 29 are planning to actively celebrate the festival. This not only has an impact on the celebrations themselves, but also on the local economy.
The economic expenditure for Halloween in the region is around 14 million euros annually, which shows that this fun of terror is also financially noticeable. The celebrants spend an average of 40 euros per person. According to Margarete Gumprecht, the chairwoman of the trade in the WKW, Halloween is smaller than the sales bringers of Christmas or Easter, but it still provides positive economic impulses, especially for local suppliers and confectionery.
popular products and sustainability
Interestingly, this year's trends show a significantly increased preference for sweets. A total of 75 percent of those surveyed intend to buy sweets, which corresponds to an increase of 31 percent compared to the previous year. Decorative articles, gourmets or special decorative pumpkins follow after sweets, which plan 29 percent of the respondents. Costumes, make -up and accessories also rank high in popularity. But consumers are increasingly also thinking of sustainability. "More and more people value environmentally friendly decoration and healthy sweets," says Gumprecht. Dealers in Vienna react to this demand and expand their range of environmentally conscious products. It is also noteworthy that 83 percent of Viennese buy their Halloween articles in business-industry suppliers therefore benefit significantly from this strong demand.
Overall, Halloween not only fun, but also brings economic advantages for the region. The results of the survey underline the importance of the festival for local trade and offer interesting insights into the current consumption habits.
