Paul Kaman: Sondering jump makes a debut success in the Austria Cup

The eleven-year-old Paul Kaman, member of the city center club from Schwechat, caused a sensation in his debut in the Austria Cup in ski jumping. With an impressive jump to 65.5 meters, he set the height of the daily width and set a new record for his age group. The competition took place on the Laideregg hill in Bischofshofen and Kaman is the first of his age group to reach such a distance.

Although the competition did not start for Paul - after a first jump of 53.0 meters, it was still in 14th place - his second jump was enough to improve quickly and reach the podium. In a moment of the surprise, Paul said: "To be honest, I am surprised that it has become such a perfect day. Especially after the last six months, when I couldn't train properly through my injury. But I'm glad that I have not forgotten ski jumping."

excellent performance of the city center

for the city center association, which has been promoting excellent talents for years, this was another testimony of their hard work. Florian Danner, the chairman of the club, congratulated Paul and emphasized that it is a "great performance" to come back after the injury break. "We are also very happy that we brought seven new athletes to the Austria Cup this year," added Danner. These successes show that the intensive structure in the young area is already bearing fruit.

Simon Kleineidam, 14 years old, who is now training at the Saalfelden Schigymnasium, landed in the seventh place in the “Student II” age group with jumps of 63.0 and 64.0 meters. Overall, the young athletes showed a strong performance, although there was only one starter in the girls: Siri Grimheden from Vienna-Landstraße, in 16th place. Also two other city dams, Malik Barrett and Raffael Swatek, achieved respectable places in the top 30th

A special focus is on the fact that the city center association, which does not have its own ski jump in the immediate vicinity, is still represented several times in the upper ranks. Although more than 500 children and adolescents from Vienna and the surrounding area show interest in ski jumping, the search for a suitable infrastructure, such as a young matt ski jump, continues. The association has been fighting for better training conditions for years to further develop and support the offspring.
