Donaustädter Bad celebrates reopening: modernization and bathing fun

After several months of the renovation work, the Donaustädter Bad will finally open its goals again on Thursday, October 10th. The popular indoor pool and the sauna have been closed on the roof since April due to urgent repairs. This renovation is part of the ambitious “Bath Building Program 2030”, in which the City of Vienna invests a total of 115 million euros in the construction of five swimming pools and the upgrading of 30 existing systems.

The roof work of the Donaustadt combined bib, to be found at Portnergasse 38, have now been completed. The mayor Christoph Return (Neos), district leader Ernst Nevrivy (SPÖ) and department head Hubert Teubenbacher of the MA 44 personally stopped by the reopening.

Vice Mayor Return emphasizes that the Viennese baths not only offer cost -effective leisure opportunities, but also make an important contribution to environmental protection. The district leader Nevrivy adds that the Donaustädter Bad plays a central role in swimming lessons and sporting activities in the region. It was emphasized that the reopening would come in time for the winter season and thus bath guests, schools and swimming clubs are available again.

Teubenbacher continues that the work as part of the “Bath Building Program 2030” have progressed according to schedule, which is documented by the quick completion of the Donaustädter bath.

During the renovation, the entire roof was removed and replaced by a new warm roof that has a deflected seal. The construction was not only increased and widened, which improves the water drain when it rains, but also equipped with so -called "light pockets", which lead natural light into the swimming pool.
