25 years of Christmas village: festive holidays on the campus of the University of Vienna
On Saturday, November 23, 2024, the Christmas village on the campus of the University of Vienna celebrated its 25th anniversary with a solemn festival and a great program. For many years, this Advent market has been one of the highlights in the Vienna pre -Christmas season and attracts numerous visitors. From its beginnings in the old AKH, the Christmas village has developed into a popular meeting place for young and old.
To celebrate the anniversary, there was a varied festival that made the hearts of the guests beat faster. From 11 a.m. the Josefinenalm was a particularly popular destination for families with children. The so-called "Happy Hours" enabled the little guests to use two of the most exciting rides for only 1 euro-an offer that was enthusiastically accepted. Parents reported radiant faces and happy shouting while the children were doing their rounds. Another highlight was the Christ child's appearance on stilts that enchanted the visitors with his glittering costume and stepped through the Christmas village.
Various offer for young and old
adults could choose from over 40 different stands that offered handmade gifts, culinary delights and festive drinks. Mulled wine and punch heated up the atmosphere, while the wide range of sweet and hearty delicacies invited to linger. The festive atmosphere at the Christmas market was contagious and many guests stayed longer than originally planned.
A highlight of the evening was the big stage, which was built in the core of the market and attracted numerous visitors. Here, among other things, the Vice Rector of the University of Vienna, Dr. Nikolaus Hautsch, and the district manager, Saya Ahmad, spoke on solemn speeches. A particularly contemplative moment was the blessing of the market by the pastor Toni Faber. Musical performances by "The Bad Powells" and ORF-DJ Alex List created a lively mood until the end of the event.
The anniversary not only represented a solemn event, but was also proof of the popularity of the Christmas market. The positive response of the visitors: Inside, and many were enthusiastic about the lovingly designed ambience.
