Serious accident in Simmering: Pedestrians suffer head injuries!

On Thursday at 4:30 p.m., a serious traffic accident occurred on the Simmeringer Hauptstraße in the eleventh district of Vienna. A 23-year-old driver who drove his car out of an underground car park turned right towards the city center and collided with a 73-year-old pedestrian who crossed the street. The impact caused the older man to fall to the ground and suffered serious head injuries. The Vienna professional rescue was quickly on site and brought the injured to a hospital where he was treated, reported .

In parallel to this incident, a comprehensive greening project is currently being started on Simmeringer Hauptstraße. In a first step, four new plane trees are to be planted on Litfaßstrasse. The aim is to remove and green one of the most sealed areas in the 11th district, where 99 % of the area are currently paved. The redesign is intended to help improve the microclimate in the region, because the last summer illustrated the negative effects of strongly sealed areas. Planning City Councilor Ulli Sima emphasized the importance of these measures and announced a citizen survey for spring 2025 in order to give the residents the opportunity to express their wishes for a climate 15 Simmeringer Hauptstraße, such as Regionews.at reported.

These projects are part of a larger initiative for creating more climate -friendly and livable districts, which are intended to improve both cycling and pedestrian friendliness. While the legal and planning steps for the greening are progressing, the accident on the main street remains an alarming sign of traffic safety in the city. The work on the new bike paths and the further greening are further indicators of progress in urban development, while at the same time it has to be done to ensure the safety of all road users.
