Cardinal Schönborn calls for a donation for needy in Vienna and Syria
Al-Mouzineh, Syrien - Cardinal Christoph Schönborn started a significant call: On the occasion of his farewell as an archbishop of Vienna, he asks to refrain from gifts and instead donate to two important aid projects. These foundations, which are particularly important to him, support both needy mothers in Vienna and the elderly in need of help in Syria. The
Cardinal Schönborn has not forgotten the situation in Syria. In al-Mouzineh, a place in the "Valley of Christians", he supports an old people's home that is operated under the catastrophic conditions in the country. 90 percent of the population live below the poverty border in this area, and the social structures are significantly weakened. The old people's home, which is operated by the local parish, offers help for around 30 older and disabled people. However, this facility is not only limited: therapeutic offers and support for hundreds of children in the form of clothing in winter are also part of the program. The parish works closely with the Linz relief organization "Initiative of Christian Orient" (ICO), which also took over the financing of a solar system to support the people on site, such as elisabethinen-oesterreich.at
The dramatic situation in Syria and the increasing need in Austria underline the urgency of these concerns. Cardinal Schönborn asks solidarity with the needy and leaves no doubt that every donation to these projects is not only necessary, but also a sign of compassion. Help for the needy in Syria
