Juca opens in Floridsdorf: New home for Vienna's young homeless!
Hermann Bahr Straße 16, 1210 Wien, Österreich - In Vienna, Caritas has opened a new location that offers young homeless people an urgently needed support. The Juca location in Floridsdorf is an innovative facility that offers space for up to 95 young people without permanent place to stay. The official opening took place on Thursday in the presence of climate section Jürgen Schneider and district manager Georg Papai. Caritas director Klaus Schwertner emphasized the invisibility of homelessness in young people and the need for such offers.
Juca has existed for over 40 years and is an important part of the support offer for young people in the city. With a concept that includes a temporary home and support for stabilization and future prospects, the residents have essential help to improve their life situation.
programs and living options
Juca offers different living opportunities to meet the different needs of the target group. These include:
- Juca_Chanances in Hermann Bahr Straße 16 with 16 places in 2-bed residential units for a maximum of 3 months.
- juca_courage at the same location that offers 35 living spaces in small residential units for longer stays.
- juca_capacity on two other addresses (Raxstraße 28 and in the long field 39) with Garçonnièrenverbande or 2 Series WG settings, cared for.
A 24-hour team is present in the facilities to provide support and help the residents achieve their individual goals. This not only offers needs -based care, but also activities such as workshops in the JUCAN workshop or in the JUCANTINE learning kitchen, which give young people the opportunity to earn pocket money.
The situation of the homeless
In Austria, around 21,000 people are homeless and homeless, of which around 60% live in Vienna. It is particularly alarming that about a third of these homeless people are under 30 years old. This demographic challenge urgently requires innovative solutions that Juca tries to offer.
For acute emergency situations, Caritas also offers the emergency sleeping agency A_way, which is specially designed for young people and young adults aged 14 to 20 years. Up to five nights a month can be overnight and free of charge. It is important to emphasize that A_way also offers support from social workers who can convey to other accommodations if necessary. The offers include free access to eat, show off and other basic needs.
The need for such institutions is also underlined by the increasing number of homeless young adults. With Juca and other offers, Caritas makes a significant contribution to the relief of this problem and offers young people a perspective that is often missing.
