Vienna starts digital educational offensive: Over 400 students set new trends!

The city of Vienna is actively committed to the digital formation of children and adolescents. From June 13th to 26th, 2025, the event "Didays Nextgen", which is part of a comprehensive program, will be organized by UIV Urban Innovation Vienna GmbH on behalf of the City of Vienna. The aim of this initiative is to raise awareness of children and adolescents at an early stage for digital issues such as artificial intelligence, digitization and MINT professions. Over 400 pupils will take part in various formats and workshops to expand their digital skills.

The Didays Nextgen extends over several days and offer students the opportunity to deal intensively with the challenges and opportunities of the digital world. The first day, June 13, is particularly dedicated to elementary schools and takes place in the University of Applied Sciences Vienna. Here the focus is on the mediation of cyber security knowledge for children between the ages of 7 and 10.

diverse formats and priorities

A central element of the didays is the workshop day "Nextgen Minds", which takes place on June 15 for older students from the age of 16 in the climate and innovation forum. Here dialogues between students, experts in artificial intelligence and city representatives are to be encouraged. Particular attention is paid to the promotion of girls in technical professions who receive targeted offers on the three days of the "Nextgen Girls" format.

A highlight of the program is the "Digital Girls Hackathon", which takes place on June 16 and 17 in the A1 headquarters. Girls between the ages of 12 and 14 have the opportunity to program a sustainability app and experience teamwork. On June 18, the “Next Gen Girls Workshop Day” follows, which gives girls between 9 and 20 years of technology and digital topics.

On June 25th, the “Wiener Charter for Digital Rights for Children and Youngsters” will be presented. This charter is part of the Vienna Child and Youth Strategy and aims to protect and promote the rights of young people in the digital space. On this day there is also a conference in the town hall that deals with the development of this charta.

conclusion with interactive festival

Another highlight is the “Space in the City” festival on Karlsplatz, which takes place from June 24th to 26th. Here an interactive program for straw observation is offered, which is aimed at school classes and the participants are integrated into dialogue with science, art and culture.

The entire initiative is not only part of the efforts to position Vienna as an attractive innovation and business location, but also a model project for future education initiatives. The integration of the young generation into the digital transformation of Vienna is emphasized.

In view of the importance of digital participation,

the role of the extra -curricular educational locations is also emphasized. These can create synergies and offer a wide range of opportunities for the digital participation of children and adolescents. The promotion of media literacy is of central importance to realize the self-determination and participation of young people in digital contexts, as the UN Convention on the Rights of Children demands.

The Didays Nextgen are an expansion of the Digital Days, which will take place from October 13 to 16, 2025 and thus pursue a sustainable approach to digital education in Vienna.
