Vienna relies on emission -free delivery: 100% by 2027!

In Vienna, more and more companies are relying on emission -free transport, which is a significant step towards climate protection. The "Zero Emission Transport" project (ZET) now comprises 41 companies that are committed to delivering emission -free in the first two municipal districts. Christian Holzhauser, chairman of the Transport and Transport division in the Vienna Chamber of Commerce, underlines the importance of great fleets for the climate goals in the city and emphasizes that companies like DPD are committed with their commitment.

DPD has set itself the goal of using at least 10 electric delivery vehicles and delivering around 1,500 packages free of emissions per day. In 2024, DPD already transported over 10 million packages in Vienna, with more than 62 million packages being moved across Austria. By 2027, DPD is planning to deliver 100 % electrically in Vienna and in all state capitals.

growth and contribution to climate protection

The Zet project, which has started since June 2024, has developed rapidly. In addition to DPD, new participants such as the Atensam property management, Brau Union, Felber, Frankstahl, Gewista and many other companies have set themselves the goal of expanding their fleets with emission -free vehicles. Walter Ruck, President of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce, emphasizes the role model of these companies, which together make their contribution to climate protection.

Mayor Michael Ludwig emphasizes the importance of the project for the vision of a CO2-neutral city by 2040. In the first six months of the project, 450,000 kilometers of emission-free were covered and 125 tons of CO2 were saved, which would be absorbed by 10 hectares of forest per year. These successes show the great potential for higher savings, since not all companies can currently run completely emission -free.

innovations in logistics

The motivation of those involved is clear: the focus is on sustainable management and environmental protection. REWE International AG recently used three e-trucks in the project area, while the Felber bakery increases the use of fully electric vehicles for their logistics. These initiatives are part of a larger trend in urban logistics, which also addresses innovative concepts such as cargo bike rental systems and alternative drives. Studies show that a targeted reduction in environmental pollution through urban package distribution is possible and large companies such as DPD can play a key role.

The success of the ZET project is an example of how through cooperation between large and small companies, the use of fully electric vehicles and the commitment to climate protection can achieve significant change in urban logistics. The BFI Vienna University of Applied Sciences supports the companies in their transformation and offers valuable data to optimize climate -friendly business.
