Vienna celebrates the Pride Month: Huge rainbow flag on the house of the sea!

In June 2025, the House of the Sea in Vienna will celebrate the Pride-Month with a special program. This includes the largest rainbow flag in Austria, which is raised at the flak tower of the house. With the impressive dimensions of 30 × 8 meters, the flag will not only set a clear sign of tolerance and diversity, but also embody the motto "Pride meets ocean", which revolves around sexual diversity. The house of the sea, known for its over 600 animal species, will address the different types of love in nature.

The extensive program offers special tours of topics that bring diversity closer to the animal kingdom and describe nature as diverse, queer and not binary. These guided tours are distributed to a total of five appointments: 3rd, 11th, 14th, 19th and 27th June, at 6:00 p.m., and last about 60 minutes. Participation in these events is free of charge, but the regular admission price for the house of the sea must be paid. The number of participants is limited to 25 people per appointment, which is why a timely registration via the website of the house of the sea is required ( www.haus-des-meeres.at ).

variety in focus

As part of the events, visitors are not only informed about homosexual animals, but also about various gender identities, which promises a special learning effect. The combination of wildlife and topics of the LGBTQ+community creates a unique experience that is both entertaining and instructive. Oe24 and My district reports of the exciting mix of fun and education that is offered in the house of the sea in June.

In addition to the flag campaign and guided tours, visitors are invited to celebrate the colorful variety of nature and to reflect the meaning of symbols such as the rainbow flag. The flag has been strongly established since its performance in 2019 and stands for values such as community, healing, joy, gender conformity, pure love, strength and diversity. These meanings can be found in the seven colorful strips of the flag, whereby the costs for production increase with the number of colors. Nevertheless, the flag was made with five stripes to preserve their essential message, as explained in Queer-Lexikon

The combination of art, nature and social dialogue makes the Pride-Month a special highlight in Vienna in the House of the Sea. Visitors have the opportunity not only to discover the fascinating fauna, but also to actively contribute to the education and acceptance of diversity. Be ready for a colorful and educational journey through the various facets of love and identity in nature.
