As part of an interview, Petr Bříza, the Vice President of the International IIHF IIH Hockey Association, commented on the ice hockey World Cup and the opportunity to organize future tournaments in Vienna. Bříza emphasized that the city, possibly in partnership with Bratislava, would be an attractive venue, but at the moment Austria could not do any World Cup due to the lack of suitable arenas. The Vienna Holding Arena, which is to be completed by 2030, could change the situation and thus enable future performances in Austria. This partnership would be advantageous because the two capitals were only 40 kilometers apart and would therefore facilitate logistical cooperation.

Bříza also pointed out that other sports such as handball and football are able to organize tournaments across several countries, which underlines the feasibility of a common ice hockey tournament. Another important question that was addressed is the return of Russia and Belarus, which were excluded from international competitions. According to Bříza, the re -approval depends heavily on the geopolitical developments and the war in Ukraine. However, the exclusion of these teams will remain fixed for the coming season, and the decision to return is made annually.
