Waldviertel PUR: Culinary diversity conquers the Vienna Rathausplatz!

Wiener Rathausplatz, 1010 Wien, Österreich - At the Vienna Rathausplatz, the “Waldviertelpur” festival has started today, which will take place for the 20th time this year. The three -day event will present the regional delicacies and the cultural heritage of the Waldviertel from May 21 to 23, 2025. Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner opened the festival and emphasized the advantages of the region, which is characterized by its diversity and hospitality. "Waldviertelpur" is described as a success story that has grown every year since 2004 and took place in different locations, first in "Am Hof", then at Heldenplatz and now on Rathausplatz.

Mikl-Leitner pointed out the increased demand for high-quality regional products, which is also reflected in the large number of visitors. A third of the Lower Austrian guests come from Vienna, which underlines the importance of this event. Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner meanwhile announced the construction of a visitor center at the Allentsteig military training area. This could also contribute to the attractiveness of the region, which is also represented at the Expo in Japan with a wooden artwork in the Austria Pavilion.

cuisine and craft in the center of

The event offers a wide range of culinary and craft experiences. Exhibitors present local products and craftsmen offer exciting insights into their techniques, such as car carving or basket braids. There is also a traditional costume fashion show by Elfi Maisetschläger, while a varied music program-from brass music to Schuhplattler to rock bands-ensures entertainment.

The festival's culinary highlights include dishes from grill world champions and organic farmers as well as exquisite wines from the Kamptal and refreshing beers from Zwettl and Schrems. In the live kitchen on the village stage, visitors can take part in the preparation of Waldviertel specialties such as dumplings and poppy pasta. There is also information about noble fires, natural cosmetics and garden culture.

sustainability in tourism

In the context of the festival, it is interesting to mention that sustainable cultural tourism is becoming increasingly important. As culture.ec.europa.eu , cultural heritage plays a central role in tourism and sustainable development. "Waldviertelpur" promotes the locally anchored economy and focuses on the authenticity of the products offered. The focus is on the integration of local communities to ensure sustainable development and to preserve cultural heritage.

As part of these efforts, a competition for the anniversary edition of "Waldviertelpur" is also offered, where prices for vacation in the Waldviertel can be won. The Waldviertel is thus a popular goal for natural experiences and is very popular among holidaymakers.
