Elections in Lower Austria: Trust strengths or experience failures?

Elections in Lower Austria: Trust strengths or experience failures?

At the New Year's reception of the Lower Austrian Association in St. Pölten, which took place on Tuesday, the focus was on two central topics: the upcoming municipal elections on January 26 and the possibility of a new blue-black coalition at the federal level. In her speech, ÖVP State Center Johanna Mikl-Leitner emphasized that the elections are not about billing with federal politics, but rather about the concerns that are right on the front door of the citizens. At the same time, the FPÖ accused them of seeing the linking elections as an opportunity to gain influence. We have to make it clear that "solid craft" and not "loose mouth" counts in local politics, says Mikl-Leitner.

also included an allusion to the current challenges in federal politics, especially the difficulties of finding a stable government partner. Mikl-Leitner mentioned the outgoing ÖVP Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer and his commitment to a "constructive and future-oriented federal government". Community Association President Johannes Pressl added the discussion by pointing out the vow formula of the mayors, which is supposed to act as a moral compass. This formula ensures that the mayors act unselfishly and impartial, which is of crucial importance in the context of the upcoming elections. Pressl, however, showed that he does not consider additional compliance rules to be necessary, since the existing vow already set high standards.

campaign for voter mobilization

In preparation for the local elections, the municipal association started a campaign that focuses on compliance with the vow and the transparency in the office behavior of the mayor. According to the Pressl, the 568 upcoming elections are to be linked to the "political currency of trust". At a time when the requirements for local politics increase due to a wide range of challenges, security and stability are of essential importance for citizens. Pressl was certain that the citizens choose the candidates they trust and found that the values in smaller communities were even more pronounced. This shows how important it is that the citizens are connected to those responsible in their community without being influenced by federal politics.
