Vulkan de Fuego breaks out: 30,000 people in danger!
Guatemala, Guatemala - In Guatemala, the Volcán de Fuego (fire volcano) experienced a huge outbreak today. According to the National Institute for Seismology, Vulcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology, an impressive ash and gas column rose up to seven kilometers to the sky. Hot streams made of gas, ash and chunks of rock flocked the slopes of the 3,763 meter high volcano at high speed. The national civil protection authority Conred has asked around 30,000 people in three districts affected to get to safety because they are in direct danger. Hundreds have already been brought to safety, while school lessons in several communities were due to the ash rains. The fire volcano is about 40 kilometers southwest of the capital Guatemala City and is considered the most active volcano in the country.
