New slaughterhouse in Rankweil: Millions of investment ensures dispute!
New slaughterhouse in Rankweil: Millions of investment ensures dispute!
In Vorarlberg, the "slaughterhouse" rolls up: In December, the state government approved generous 4.8 million euros for a new slaughterhouse in Rankweil, where a high -tech and animal -friendly operation is said to be created. With around three million euros, the country contributes a significant amount from its budget. According to vorarlberg.orf.at , the new slaughterhouse is to be built on the site of the existing pig fattening company Gstach and could process up to 5,000 cattle, 1,500 pigs and 2,500 sheep every year. The necessary permits have already been applied for, and an oral hearing is scheduled for mid -March before the construction work is to begin in spring. The commissioning of the slaughterhouse is sought for 2026.
But not everyone is enthusiastic about these plans. The SPÖ state parliament member Reinhold Einwallner in particular expresses sharp criticism of the considerable financial support on the part of the country. In a comprehensive request, the SPÖ has now expressed concerns that almost 60 % of the total investment costs are borne by the taxpayers, while at the same time the responsibility for operation on taxpayers is passed on. As vorarlberg.spoe.at , there is a growing concern about the non-transparency and the unclear decision-making around the project. Einwallner demands answers to the financial means that has so far been planned and how the state justifies the generous funding in view of the tense budget situation. He also makes considerations whether alternative models such as a cooperative solution would make more sense.
criticism of the financing
The closure of the slaughterhouse in Dornbirn at the end of 2021 had initiated the search for a new location. Despite intensive discussions and considerable financial resources for planning, previous attempts remained unsuccessful. The current situation raises questions, in particular with regard to the use of taxpayers without adequate control or participation, which Einwallner perceives as worrying. With the Spös request, clarity and more transparency should now be brought into the project.
