SPÖ triumphs in Bregenz: Ritsch remains mayor without a runoff election!
Bregenz, Österreich - In Vorarlberg, the SPÖ under Mayor Michael Ritsch won an overwhelming victory in Bregenz. Ritsch, who has been in office since 2020, was able to unite 50.94 percent of the votes. His challenger Roland breakfast from the ÖVP only came to 29.96 percent. It was surprising that Ritsch was confirmed in the first ballot, which made a runoff election superfluous. Both the city council and the mayor's office thus remained in social democratic hands, such as oe24.at reported.
The SPÖ was also able to increase from 29.58 to 42.70 percent when the city council election and increase from 11 to 16 mandates. In contrast, the ÖVP completed 30.14 percent and 11 mandates, which corresponds to a decline in more than nine percentage points. The Greens also had to accept losses and only reach 10.99 percent, while the FPÖ was able to double with 11.20 percent from 6.81 percent in 2020 to 4 mandates. In the largest market town of Lustenau there will be a runoff election in two weeks, in which ÖVP candidate Patrick Wiedl will compete against Martin Fitz from the FPÖ, as vorarlberg.Af.at
Development of the elections in the region
In addition, the possibility of stab elections is becoming increasingly likely in other communities. In Dornbirn there could be a duel between Julian Fässler (ÖVP) and Markus Fäßler (SPÖ), while in Götzis the reigning mayor Manfred Böhmwalder from the ÖVP against Christoph Längle, a former FPÖ politician, competes. The developments in the cities illustrate a change in the political landscape of Vorarlberg, which clearly reflects the will to voters.
