New alternative building at Bregenz station: Festival visitors are happy!

At the Bregenz train station, the construction started for a new alternative building. This is built in the area of ​​parking spaces on the land of the ÖBB and is intended to serve as a temporary replacement for the existing station building that has reached the end of its technical lifespan. The necessary work started before Easter and aim to create a modern and functional space for travelers while a new recording building is being planned. The alternative building is expected to be put into operation from mid -July, in time for the beginning of the Bregenz Festival.

The demolition of the current station building is carried out depending on the new owner, whereby the time is still unclear. This big step is part of a comprehensive strategy of the ÖBB to make the train stations in Austria future -proof and to meet the increasing requirements of the travelers. The condition of many train stations was inadequate over several years, which led to an urgent need for investments in order to create a modern and attractive travel experience. According to the DB Infrago, around 20 million guests arrive in Austria's train stations every day, which underlines the importance of high standards in station design.

The ÖBB transported a total of 494 million passengers in 2023 and promoted over 78 million tons of goods. The financial resources for the infrastructure are over 4.5 billion euros annually, which illustrates the crucial role of ÖBB as a backbone of public transport in Austria.
