Graz becomes a lighthouse of human rights - a role model for Europe!
Graz, Österreich - Graz celebrates a significant success in the field of human rights! In a glamorous press conference, Mayor Siegfried Nagl announced that the European Training and Research Center for Human Rights and Democracy in Graz was officially appointed "UNESCO Center to promote human rights in communities and regions". In addition to Buenos Aires, Graz is the second location of this kind worldwide. Nagl underlined the importance of this award: "We all cannot do enough for human rights", as Governor Hermann Schützenhöfer emphasized.
The UNESCO training center, led by Klaus Starl, works intensively on how human rights can be implemented at the local level. Starl explained that Graz has already become international as a “human right city” and is currently supporting the city of Bregenz in the development of action programs against racism. With other prominent cities in their sights, such as Zurich and Innsbruck, Graz shows its central role in the human rights dialogue. This is not only a triumph for Graz, but also an important step for global human rights work, which is promoted by the exchange of ideas and initiatives, as steiermark.at

The commitment of the UNESCO training center also shows itself in the international delegations that Graz regularly visit. This year Graz received delegations from South Korea and Finland who would like to find out more about proven practices on site. This cooperation illustrates the emergence of Graz as a hub for human rights formation and advice. "In any case, the fundamental rights of freedom of expression may not be touched," warned Schützenhöfer in view of the challenges in view of which the company is faced with, as reported by Graz.at . This progress is not only a sign of Graz local politics, but shines far beyond the city limits and makes Graz an indispensable player in the field of human rights.
