The city of Bregenz is on the way to develop a new urban quarters, the "Bregenz Mitte". This is done in the context of the renovation of the new Bregenz train station, where project partners such as the city, the country, the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) and real estate developers have come together. It was recently announced that the Vienna architecture firm Studio Vlaysteeruwitz, which won the “Bregenz Mitte” competition in 2022, was commissioned to create an urban development model. This was confirmed by Mayor Michael Ritsch after the city council meeting on November 19th.

The financial effort for the order amounts to around 100,000 euros gross, with a funding of 40 % expected by the country. The urban development mission statement will play a central role in the further development of "Bregenz Mitte" and is intended to integrate all essential parameters for the district design. The plans include the relocation of the L202 parallel to the railway line and the design of a new train station with a modern bus terminal that is intended to make it easier to switch between different means of transport

The "Variant 4a", which is the basis of the current development processes, enables the city to redesign both the L202 and the new train station, including the forecourt and underpass between the train station and the festival district.
