Bregenz is breaking new ground in contemporary art - exhibitions 2025
The Kunsthaus Bregenz has presented its new program for 2025, which presented several important artists. Cub director Thomas D. Trummer explained details about an exciting art exhibition that was inspired by the Venice Biennale. This event is one of the most renowned world exhibitions and attracts artists from all over the world, which strongly influences the program design in Bregenz.
In February 2025, the Londoner Precious Okoyomon will set the first highlight in the cub. She is known for her impressive work that combine elements such as poetry and robotics and also deal with topics such as migration and racism. One of her most impressive installations was the jungle landscape, which she presented in Venice in 2022. This exhibition will be seen by the end of May and promises to kidnap visitors into a fascinating, fantastic world.
anonymous art in autumn
Another expected event is the exhibition of Malgorzata Mirga-Tas, which will take place from June 7 to September 28, 2025. The artist became known for her impressive presentation at the Biennale, in which she decorated the Polish pavilion with unique textile collages. Mirga-Tas will not only use old textiles, but also create new sculptures from wax, which flare mythical elements and offer a deeper examination of Roma and Sinti cultures.
A particularly interesting novelty in the KUB program is the autumn exhibition that will present an anonymous artist. From October 11, 2025 to January 19, 2026, the question is dealt with here, how ideas travel and what this means for art. "This should be all about art and not about the identity or gender of the person," emphasized Trummer. The work should speak for themselves and not build on previous works.
Smaller projects and international cooperation
for 2025, new formats are also planned. Instead of a fourth large exhibition, there are two smaller cub projects that deal with the human body. In the summer exhibition, which runs from July 12 to September 28, 2025, works by artists such as Michael Armitage and Maria Lassnig are compared. The exchange between these artists led to an exciting concept that will also be seen internationally in Nairobi.
Another innovative project is the so -called Cloud Castle, which is realized in cooperation with art museums from the region. On January 11, 2025, a live performance will take place in the Toggenburg Klanghaus, which revolves around the opera "Carmen" by Georges Bizet and is led by the US artist Wu Tsang. This represents a dialogue room for contemporary art, which will be expanded in the future.
In the press conference, the gratifying number of visitors in 2024 was also pointed out. Around 52,000 people visited the various exhibitions, which shows the gradual return to the numbers before Corona pandemic. The summer exhibition “Wish You Were Gay” by Anne Imhof with around 24,000 visitors was particularly popular.
With these promising program items, the Kunsthaus Bregenz shows that it remains an important place for contemporary art. Further information and exciting developments can be found on www.schwaebische.de
