Tourism in Vorarlberg: Successful summer season and future plans

In Vorarlberg, the experts in the tourism industry can optimistically look back on the 2024 summer season. Despite the challenges that the last year brought with it, the numbers from the previous year could be held. From May to October, around 1.41 million guests visited the region and booked an impressive 4.48 million overnight stays. These figures are identical to those of the summer of 2023 and show that Vorarlberg is again convincing as a popular destination this year.

diversity in the regions

The tourist regions of Bodensee-Vorarlberg and Kleinwalsertal even had a overnight plus, with growth of 3.1 percent and 2.2 percent. In other destinations, however, there was a slight decline in overnight stays. Germany remains the most important market for Vorarlberg with 2.67 million overnight stays. However, there was a noticeable decline in the number of guests from Austria, the Netherlands and France. In contrast, visitors from Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Belgium flocked to the region.

strategy for all year round stays

An interesting trend is the renewed shortening of the length of stay of the guests, which now remained an average of 3.18 days. "This means more effort for the companies and a harder earned money," said tourism director Christian Schützinger. Nevertheless, he speaks of an overall successful summer season. The tradition of the main markets remains, whereby the demand from Switzerland and Liechtenstein shows gratifying growth. Schützinger emphasizes that the strategy towards all -year tourism makes sense.

Tourism State Councilor Marco Tittler from the ÖVP underlined the ambitions of the region to develop further. He sees the industry on a promising path to act as a year -round destination. Tittler emphasizes that all actors - from land and associations to communities and companies - have to work together. The reduction of bureaucracy and the recruitment of specialists are central concerns for the coming years. "We have to work intensively on increasing the competitiveness of the tourism industry," he said.

The perseverance slogans and strategies of the Vorarlberg tourism managers give hope for another positive year, especially if you consider the many challenges of the industry. The holiday region remains attractive to a wide audience and could expect further measures to strengthen the tourism sector in the coming years.
