Bludenz begins with its own energy: Foundation of the renewable community

energy is becoming increasingly important these days, and the city of Bludenz is progressing with an innovative approach: the establishment of a renewable energy community (EEG). In the future, the amounts generated by hydropower and photovoltaic systems can be used more efficiently. This step was decided after a unanimous decision by the city council.

Mayor Simon Tschann emphasizes the importance of this initiative: "As an E5 community, we stand for energy efficiency and renewable energies. The possibility of using the self-generated electricity for urban facilities such as schools, street lighting and administrative buildings is great progress for our sustainability goals."

Renewable energy use

The Renewable Expansion Act (EAG) has created the legal framework for the creation of such communities. These can include various organizations, including clubs, and enable electricity to generate, store and sell electricity across property boundaries. "With the EEG in Bludenz, we have the chance to build a local supply of environmentally friendly energy," explains Energy Councilor Martina Brandstetter.

The benefit for the city is clear: the electricity produced in its own power plants is handed over to the EEG and can then be distributed. The first estimates show that over 90 % of the electricity that is produced can also be consumed. In addition, the EEG taxes are reduced and network operators grant discounts on the fees.

In the last meeting of the city council, the EEG was unanimously decided, which illustrates the positive attitude of the representatives for the use of renewable energies. This measure is a significant step on the way to more independence in the energy sector and an active contribution to the energy transition.
