Volkswagen: Warning strikes threaten - workforce is frustrated!

The Volkswagen Group is facing a dramatic labor: from Monday, nationwide warning strikes will be announced in all German works by the car maker. The IG Metall reaches for this means after the peace is forbidden, the strikes forbidden. Union representatives Thorsten Gröger said that the production would be "temporarily lying on ice" and underlined that these warning strikes for VW are "not overview". This measure represents an expression of the great frustration in the workforce, as works council chief Daniela Cavallo emphasizes: "I am sure that we will have a huge encouragement".

At the center of the conflict, the demand of around 120,000 employees is for better wages. Volkswagen currently intends to enforce a reduction in wages of ten percent in the event of a difficult economic situation. In addition, there are possible work closings and operational terminations, which further fueled the mood in the workforce. "If necessary, this will be the hardest collective bargaining fight that Volkswagen has ever seen," warned Gröger. The union sees the warning strikes as a means of pressure to take precautions and question the responsibility of the board. VW reacted and emphasized that the company respected the right to strike of the employees and continued to rely on a constructive dialogue.

a flaming conflict

The situation has worsened in the past few weeks. With the outbreak of warning strikes, IG Metall wants to force the group to finally respond to the worries of the workforce and instead of relying on cuts, creating perspectives. "Volkswagen set fire to our collective agreements," Gröger described the tense situation. On December 9th, another tariff round should take place that could be crucial for both sides.
