Road safety in focus: conversion of the B 210 intersection started!

On May 30, 2025, the transformation of the intersection B 210 Ebreichsdorfer Straße with L 154 Tattendorfer Straße in Oberwaltersdorf officially began to increase traffic safety. The start of construction was accompanied by MP Peter Gerstner, Mayor Natascha Matousek and Di Klaus Längauer. The measure was launched to counteract the high traffic volume, which leads to congestion and accidents in particular in the morning and evening hours.

The planned redesign measures include the construction of a new traffic light signal system, a new left-hand turn strip and new transitions for foot and cyclists. The traffic light signal system, which is installed by the GESIG company, is designed for permanent green on the B 210, whereby a switching is made from the L 154 when registering for the vehicle. Pedestrians and cyclists can also register via pressure switches.

Details of the redesign measures

The lanes of the B 210 are widened to make room for the left -hand strip with traffic island. In addition, the intersection area is carried out in concrete. To enable a continuous cycle path connection via the B 210, the sidewalks are partially adjusted.
The construction work is expected to be completed by the beginning of September. At the same time, construction work has been running for a new water pipe for about two months. The road construction work is carried out by the Leyrer & Graf company from Schwechat. During the construction period, traffic on B 210 and L 154 is partially directed by traffic light regulations in the construction site, and the approach and exit of Siedlerstrasse to the B 210 remains closed.

The total costs for the redesign amount to around 580,000 euros, of which 400,000 euros are borne by the state of Lower Austria and 180,000 euros by the market town of Oberwaltersdorf.

traffic safety as a central concern

The emphasis on traffic safety is not only in the context of local conversion measures, but is also part of a more comprehensive approach to improve traffic safety throughout the federal territory. According to the information from Destatis , the road traffic accident statistics show detailed information on accidents, vehicles and causes of accident. Such statistics offer a database for the development of measures in legislation, traffic education and infrastructural improvements.

Road safety is also promoted by continuous data analysis at European level. Eurostat provides comprehensive data that enables to compare accident risks and create the basics for state transport policy, especially with regard to infrastructure security policy.
