Van der Bellen visits Jingis-Khan Museum in Mongolia!
The Austrian Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen will be the first Federal President of Austria to visit Mongolia. This historical visit takes place on May 25, 2025 and is accompanied by an economic, science and cultural delegation. As part of his stay in the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar, several agreements and declarations of intent are planned to contribute to strengthening bilateral relationships. The Jingis Khan Museum will be a highlight of his visit, since it houses one of the largest collections about the Mongolian ruler.
van der Bellen travels directly from Japan, where he met Emperor Naruhito and visited the World Exhibition (Expo) in Osaka. In Ulaanbaatar, he will open a business roundtable meeting with business delegates on Tuesday to discuss economic cooperation. Mongolia, which is 19 times larger than Austria, has over three million inhabitants, almost half of which live in Ulaanbaatar. This country is the most thinned populated in the world.
Dschingis Khan and his heir
The focus of the visit is the inheritance of Jinge Khans, which founded a huge empire in the 13th century, which was twice as large as today's China. His rule extended to today's Romania and controlled over 22 % of the world's land mass. The Dschingis-Khan Museum receives special attention, which, among other things, shows portraits of Mongolian prince, historical armor and letters from prince from time. This collection illuminates the rich history and culture of the Mongols, kindly supported by the museum itself on the website Chinggis Museum.
In addition, the role of the Mongols in the first major globalization, which was funded by the introduction of the "Pax Mongolica" (1230-1350). This period allowed a lively exchange between east and west and laid the foundation for economic and cultural interactions. These topics are also dealt with in a renowned exhibition in the Musée d’Histoire de Nantes, which shows the influence of the Mongolian Empire on world history, such as Kultur-Port reported.
Visitors to the exhibition learn over 450 exhibits for the expansion of the Mongol Empire and its cultural influences. In 2024, this exhibition will be shown in Ulaanbaatar as well as in Canada and the USA. Accompanying this, numerous cultural events are planned to deal with Mongolian culture, music, dance and literature.
The visit of Van der Bellen is not only an important diplomatic step, but also a valuable exchange of knowledge and culture between Austria and Mongolia. His journey symbolizes the interest in promoting connections across geographical and cultural borders.
