Over 1,000 guests celebrate the opening of the wind farm in Wilfersdorf!

On May 17, 2025, over 1,000 visitors celebrated the opening of the new wind farm in Wilfersdorf, an important milestone for green energy production in Lower Austria. As part of a festive ceremony, in which Karl Wilfing, President of the Landtag, and Josef Tatzber, Mayor of Wilfersdorf, participated, the cooperation project between Windkraft Simonsfeld AG and Imwind was celebrated. The wind farm consists of five modern wind turbines from the manufacturer Nordex and is said to generate around 73 million kWh of green electricity annually, which corresponds to the annual needs of over 19,000 households. The overall investment for this important project amounts to more than 50 million euros, with the construction period used for about a year and was completed in October 2024.

During the opening, Markus Winter, Chief Technology Officer from Windkraft Simonsfeld, emphasized the long -standing partnership with the market town of Wilfersdorf. Georg Waldner, CEO of Imwind, also emphasized the role of wind energy for the energy transition and the associated creation of jobs. Wilfing also pointed out that a third of the clean electricity in Lower Austria was produced by wind power. Tatzber praised the close cooperation between the companies, the municipality and the population, which underlines a positive acceptance of the project in the region.

celebrations and supporting program

The solemn opening included a varied supporting program that included crane rides, visits to the facilities and an offer of regional dishes. From 8 p.m., the band Weinviertel had a mixture and contributed to the festive atmosphere. The Wilfersdorf wind farm not only has a key role in energy supply, it is also an example of regional added value and climate protection.

wind power and the energy transition in Austria

The Wilfersdorf wind farm is part of the ambitious goals of Austria to cover the total electricity consumption of 100 percent from renewable energies by 2030. According to the national energy and climate plan, annual electricity generation from renewable energies is to be increased by at least 27 terrawatt hours (TWH) by 2030, 10 TWh of wind power. Lower Austria is a leader in wind power production, with a share of 56 percent of the total generation of electricity from wind energy in Austria. Other important factors for the success of the energy transition are the designation of areas for renewable energies and the expansion of the power grids.

With the opening of the wind farm, not only a significant step towards a more sustainable energy future is continued, but also the over 20 years of partnership between Windkraft Simonsfeld and the Wilfersdorf market town. The new wind farm is therefore not only a technical project, but also a symbol of the region's commitment to a green and sustainable energy future.
