Grief for ski talent: Marco Degli Uomini dies after a severe fall
The young Italian skier Marco Degli Uomini died tragically on Monte Zoncolan after he was seriously injured when he was jumped over 40 meters. The 18-year-old was brought out of balance during his training accident on Monday after a jump and crashed into the fishing nets. Despite initial stability and the possibility of being able to make calls with his mother, his condition in the Udine hospital deteriorated dramatically, which ultimately led to his death. "Mom, I fell, I have to have broken my legs. Stay calm," were his concerned words during the phone call, such as watson.ch reported.
The loss of degli uomini affects the Italian ski sports community, especially since it was considered one of the most promising talents. The President of the Italian Ski Association, Maurizio Dunnhofer, was affected and explained: "We are shocked." This tragedy is particularly painful, since there was another fatal incident in the Italian skiing in October 2024 when the young ski driver Matilde Lorenzi had an accident, as well as from Oe24.at . In order to take into account the memory of Degli Uomini, all other races of the regional championship in Friuli were canceled, and his ski club Monte Dauda published touching farewell words on Facebook.
