Parking shortage in Baumkirchen: commuters fight for every place!
Baumkirchen, Österreich - Parking shortage in Baumkirchen: commuters fight for a free place every day! The park-and-ride car park at the railway station in Baumkirchen is increasingly overloaded. Commuters report a growing problem that occurs in particular since the renovation of the Fritzens/Wattens station. More and more travelers from the surrounding communities are using the parking lot, which significantly limits the availability for the local commuters. As Vice Mayor Bernhard Derfeser reports, many local users feel restricted in their parking habits and now have to fight daily fights for a place where they used to be easy.
The ÖBB confirms the tense location and takes the worries of the commuters seriously. Christoph Gasser-Mair, spokesman for the ÖBB, explains that an expansion of the park-and-ride offer is currently not possible. However, they work closely with the municipality of Baumkirchen to find possible solutions. In the meantime, a payment system in Jenbach is tested to minimize abuse of the parking spaces. "We have already made suggestions to improve the parking situation, but the implementation is the responsibility of the community," said Gasser-Mair. The ÖBB tries to defuse the parking problem at other train stations such as in Jenbach and Schwaz by building measures, where numerous new parking spaces are already planned to meet the needs of the commuters.
