Nature in the garden: Four outdoor gardens receive Tyrolean award
The coveted “Nature in the Garden” plaque to gardeners who strive for the nature-related design of their private gardens were awarded last week in the Innsbruck Landhaus. Four from the outer gardens are also represented. This award not only promotes love for nature, but also rewarded the creation of habitats for domestic plant and animal species.A total of 98 gardens were awarded this special badge this year. The network of natural gardens in Tyrol has now increased to 765. The award stands for growing awareness and commitment among the population to gardening ecologically.
growing popularity of ecological gardening
The Nature Conservation Councilor René Zumtobel expressed his joy about the steadily growing interest in nature -related gardening. "It is possible for everyone to participate in a natural garden design regardless of the size of the area or whether on the balcony," said Zumtobel. A central aspect of this initiative is to avoid chemical fertilizers and peat. Instead, a diverse planting with domestic plants and the creation of retreat areas for animals such as hedgehogs and insects is required.
The "Nature in the Garden" initiative offers comprehensive advice and numerous educational events on nature -related garden care. In 2024, again 82 workshops and seminars are planned that deal with topics such as vegetable cultivation and tree care. 44 municipalities have already joined this initiative and forego art fertilizers in public green areas. A total of natural areas were created on around 25,000 square meters. "These areas promote the connection between natural areas and create important habitats for insects, birds and other mammals, which contributes to the genetic diversity," explained Matthias Karadar, head of the initiative.
This development is not only significant in theory, but also has a positive impact on local biodiversity, which increasingly pays attention to more gardeners and communities. The awards also underline how important it is to consider your own garden as part of the ecosystem. The initiative works successfully because it creates consciousness and gives people concrete instructions on how they can gardens more environmentally friendly.
