Avalanche accident at the Stubaier Glacier: Freerider saves friend after falling!
On Wednesday, December 11, 2024, a dangerous avalanche accident occurred in the Stubai Glacier area, which brought two freeriders into a precarious situation. The 27-year-old Austrian and a 33-year-old Canadian were in steep terrain immediately after leaving the ski slope. During their departure, they triggered a loose snow avalanche, which, however, had only minor dimensions. The Austrian lost his balance, slipped about 40 to 50 meters down the valley and injured his left leg. Fortunately, the Canadian of the avalanche remained intact and reacted promptly, such as 5min.at reported.
After the Canadian found his injured friend, he immediately started the rescue chain. He did not pause and quickly drove to the injured to alert the rescue workers. Thanks to this rapid reaction, the 27-year-old was recovered with a rescue helicopter and taken to Hall in Tyrol. The exact severity of the leg injury remains indefinite, but according to the rescue workers, the injury is not life -threatening. As a result of the incident, the danger situation at the Stubaier Glacier was carefully checked and the ski -traveling guests are asked to stick to the marked slopes in order to avoid such dangerous situations as tt.com reported.
