From Zams to Nemours: student exchange opens doors to French culture
The anticipation is great among the students of the 7A of the Org Zam. They are in the middle of the preparations for an exciting student exchange as part of the Erasmus+program. Her goal is the Lycée Étienne Bezout in Nemours, which is about an hour's drive south of Paris. This exchange offers young people the excellent opportunity to get to know the French school world and close friendships while developing a better understanding of the cultural diversity of Europe at the same time
The around 55 students can even look forward to a return visit in spring 2024 when the French exchange partners come to Zams to experience school and their everyday life.
First stop in Dijon
After a long bus ride of about seven hours, the young travelers reached their first destination on October 7, 2024: the city of Dijon, known for their delicious mustard. Despite the efforts of the trip, the students had the opportunity to explore the impressive old town. The Gothic buildings and the historical mood left permanent impressions among the participants.
encounters in Nemours
On October 8, 2024, we finally went to Nemours, where the big to know the Austrian students with their French peers took place. The reception was incredibly warm; It was noticeable that everyone was excited and were looking forward to the upcoming days. The students of ZAMS took the opportunity to experience lessons in France and to discover the differences and similarities between the two education systems.
experiences in French everyday school life
The actual “school week” started on October 9, 2024. For this purpose, the students were particularly excited to see how the lessons are offered, which subjects are offered and how the breaks are designed. These insights into the French school system help young adults to better understand the differences to their educational horizon in Austria. In addition, there is a varied supporting program that should support the exchange with culture, people and the country.
A former exchange student explained the importance of such programs: "It is not just about teaching, but also about getting to know new cultures and friendships that can exist across borders."
A look into the future
The exciting exchange will culminate in March or April 2025 by visiting the students from Nemours at the Org Zams. Then the Austrian students can show what their everyday school life looks like and what subjects and leisure activities there are. Many new friendships will certainly arise during the entire exchange time that will exist far beyond the exchange.
This program illustrates how important international exchange is for understanding between cultures and shows that education is more than just learning in a classroom.
