Tyrolean schools received sustainability prize for innovative projects
In the Tyrolean educational area, a remarkable initiative has established itself: Schools were awarded for their outstanding projects in climate protection. The sustainability award was awarded for the first time, initiated by the Bine Network (Education for Sustainable Development). This recognizes the remarkable willingness of children and adolescents who deal intensively with essential global challenges such as environmental protection and climate change. A total of twelve school classes took part in this special award ceremony, which received honors as part of the sustainability week at the University of Innsbruck.
The state climate protection council René Zumtobel was impressed by the submitted projects that are well thought out and underline the importance of educational work in this area. "Bine combines a total of 35 different institutions to coordinate educational offers in the field of sustainability and to bring the topic more into society," he continued. The price should motivate the students to actively work on the urgent issues of environmental protection.
The excellent schools and their projects
The jury was particularly highlighted, which the jury were able to convince with its innovative approaches to sustainability. The Kramsach elementary school, the middle school in Volders and the technical school for economic professions Wörgl have emerged through unique projects that are important both locally and globally.
Kramsach: Learn at the field
At the Kramsach elementary school, the second classes realized the “Frei-Day on the field” project. In cooperation with the Mariatal State Ministerial School, the children managed a field every Friday on the grounds of the Höfemuseum. They not only learned the principles of sustainable food cultivation, but also took responsibility for cultivation and harvesting. Part of the curriculum also included the 17 goals for sustainable development (SDGS) of the 2030 Agenda, which helped the pupils to develop a deeper understanding of global relationships.
Volders: A wake -up call for the planet
In Volders middle school, the activities surrounded the motto "There is no planet B". Under the title "Earth’s 11th Hour", the third classes dealt with the consequences of plastic pollution in English lessons. An impressive climate conference, which included posters, a panel discussion and a table of collected plastic bottles, impressively gave the students the urgency of changes and awareness of environmental issues.
Wörgl: Sign against violence
The technical school for economic professions Wörgl set a remarkable social accent with its “Renew4grow” project. As part of an action against violence on women, the pupils planted a total of 200 trees, not only in Wörgl, but also at partner schools in origin and Bruck an der Mur. Each planted plant received the sponsorship of an Austrian athlete, which contributes to increasing the topic to the public.
These successes impressively show how education and commitment can work together to cope with important social challenges. Despite the various approaches, all excellent schools pursue a common goal: promoting sustainability and environmental awareness in youth.
