Hunters mistakenly shot on wolf: Now he is threatened with trouble!
In the picturesque Neustift in the Stubai Valley, there was an unfortunate incident: After the death of a wolf, a hunter reported to the police and confessed to having accidentally shot the animal. According to reports from 5min.at, the carcass of a wolf was found on February 20, 2025 after the hunter had hunted fox the night before. Under poor visibility, he had targeted and shot a supposed fox.
After the hunter gave the shot, he immediately searched for the animal hit, but did not see any traces of blood or the animal himself. It was only through media reports about the incident that he realized that he might have killed a protected wolf, which prompted him to report to the police immediately. The officials then initiated an investigation, which was classified as a grossly negligent damage to the animal and plant population. According to the police, the hunter is now reported to the Innsbruck public prosecutor's office for suspected gross negligence, as TT.com reported.
examinations run
The autopsy of the dead wolf continues after it has been brought to the Austrian Agency of Nutritional Safety (AGE). DNA samples were sent to the Vienna University of Veterinary Medicine, and the first results of the pathological examination are expected this week, while the result of the DNA analysis should be available in the next one and a half weeks. There was no current regulation for the removal of wolves in this area, in contrast to the previous year, when 14 shooting regulations were issued and two wolves were shot.
This incident illustrates the challenges that can occur in the hunt for wild animals under difficult conditions, and the importance of compliance with hunting regulations for the protection of endangered species.
