Innsbruck improves toilet supply: master plan for public toilets
The city of Innsbruck is dedicated to the topic of public toilet facilities with a comprehensive master plan. The initiative aims to improve the sometimes poor supply of toilets in the city. As part of a municipal council request, the city government was sent the current status of the measures to create public “silent places”.
A particularly hotly discussed topic remains the toilet situation in the Waltherpark, where the desire for a publicly accessible toilet has long been expressed. While the construction work in the Waltherpark is being worked on, other toilet plants are not quite as rosy.
No new toilet on Bozner Place
One of the latest decisions concerns Bozner Platz. When asked whether a new facility was planned after the public toilets were closed, the city administration clearly replied with "No". In the past, the toilet on Bozner Platz was often controversial in terms of construction. The city sees no need for a new toilet facility and instead refers to the existing public long -term sanitary facilities in the area. According to the authorities, the use of toilets in the neighboring department stores as well as the accessibility of catering companies is guaranteed.
At the moment it is being worked on receiving the existing infrastructure and, if necessary, improving. There are sufficient alternatives for passers -by in the area, including at the train station and in the town hall gallery, which justifies the decision of the city government.
Development in the Waltherpark
The Waltherpark, on the other hand, shows progress: After demolishing the kiosk and toilet facility until 2012, there have been numerous initiatives to restore a toilet facility in this popular park. A concrete decision for the establishment of a two-room toilet system, resistant to vandalism, was made. The total costs for this project amount to around 185,000 euros. The construction should be completed by the end of 2024 and is now going into detailed planning with Innsbrucker Immobilien GmbH & Co Kg.
A solution is also sought for the Reichenau area, but this will not be implemented until 2028. The toilet system on the GDR.-Alois-Lugger-Platz, on the other hand, is to be realized faster, with a planned implementation time until 2025.
public toilets - a constant topic
The topic of public toilets remains on the agenda of the new city coalition. The current plan of measures, which is on the agenda of the city government, clearly shows a commitment to improve the toilet situation in Innsbruck. This includes, among other things, the new toilet facilities in Gramartboden and Waltherpark, which are already in the works. The accessibility and the design of the existing toilets should also be comprehensively revised to ensure better use.
The challenges in the administration of public toilet facilities, such as vandalism and use by unauthorized persons, are still treated. In recent years, the experiences from existing toilet plants, such as B. in the pavilion in front of the Landestheater, impetus for discussions in the city administration. In the market hall, a toilet container solution is discussed as a possible option to improve access, while maintaining cleanliness is another central topic.
