Traffic overload in the Wipptal: Tirol's measures for the winter of 2025
The Tyrolean state government reacted to the serious traffic load again during its meeting on Tuesday and decided a number of measures to counteract this challenge. In particular, the focus is on the situation at the Kufstein border crossing, since the upcoming construction measures on the Lueg Bridge must be directed in one lane from January 1, 2025.
State Councilor René Zumtobel presented the dosing calendar for truck (truck), which was designed for the months of January to March 2025. This calendar was transmitted to business organizations and freight associations in both Austria and abroad in order to address acute problems affected. The flow of traffic and the safety of the population are in the top priority.
traffic control measures in the Wipptal
A central aspect of the new strategy are the extended departure bans along L 38 Ellbögener Straße and the municipal road Lower Austria. Until the final completion of the asphalting work on the A13 burner highway, these measures apply in order not to further burden the flow of traffic during the construction period. The traffic supervisory bodies are reinforced to control compliance with these bans, and the police are trained accordingly for the implementation.
The state of Tyrol also plans to apply to the responsible Ministry of Transport to check the existing truck driving bans on Saturdays during this construction activities. The flow of traffic should be continuously monitored so that this can be acted in good time at the border crossing Kufstein/Kiefersfelden.
further measures to relieve traffic
on the B 182 Brennerstraße, where three bridge construction sites are currently active, is also relieved. The construction phase at the Stafflacher Sillbrücke will shortly be passable again. In order to keep the flow of traffic running, traffic positions are used on the other construction sites that manually regulate traffic.
At the same time, a dosing traffic light is installed on the B 182 to the north to activate and secure the flow of traffic. For this purpose, the existing dosing traffic light in Matrei is supported by an additional traffic position that is also covered by the police.
According to the LR Zumtobel, optimization measures will come into force this coming weekend, but the traffic remains susceptible to disorders considering the limited capacities. "The ASFINAG, the police and all affected authorities will continue to endeavor to protect the population from the traffic challenges," emphasized Zumtobel and demanded that NAVI operators are legally obliged to enter temporary driving bans into their systems. So less well -known alternative routes such as the B 182 or the L 38 could be “invisible” for location -radio.
collaboration as a key to the solution
Responsibility for the situation on the burner route is considered enormously high, especially since despite all efforts, the situation could further exhilarate through the renovation work. ASFINAG has developed a comprehensive package of measures that also includes additional truck driving bans, barrier systems and the expansion of the Rola (rolling country road).
The close cooperation of all those involved is crucial to offer the affected cities and municipalities the best possible support and to ensure planning security for commuters as well as transport and travelers. "We have to do everything we can to relieve the population in the best possible way," said Zumtobel.
