Travel of memory: Tyrolean young people explore Auschwitz 2025

An intensive educational project for young Tyroleans is on the program: The Promemoria Auschwitz association invites you to an excursion to Poland. This special project, which is intended to promote the memory and processing culture, will take place for the first time in February 2025. Registrations for participation are possible by the end of November.

The excursion leads to significant places, including the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial, where in the Second World War over 1.1 million people, many of them Jews were murdered by National Socialists. This trip offers young people between the ages of 16 and 23 the opportunity to immerse yourself in history and deal with the Holocaust.

insight into historical backgrounds

In the course of the trip, which takes place from February 12th to 17th, the participants also visit the city of Krakow, where various relevant memorials, such as the former Jewish ghetto and the Museum of the Schindler factory, are on the program. These places are not only sights, but also important contemporary witnesses that illustrate the horrors of the time.

The main goal of the excursion is to give young people a critical look at the mechanisms of discrimination and totalitarianism. The support takes place in small groups, whereby there are meetings for thorough preparation and reflection both before and after the trip. This structured approach ensures that the participants can experience deeper insights and discussions on the topic.

"We want young people to develop an awareness of their responsibility as members of society," emphasizes Lioba Fiechter, who heads the project. During the preparations, the participants are familiarized with the historical background of the Holocaust and deal with the social and psychological dimensions of exclusion. Workshops, exercises and discussions promote the exchange with each other, which deepens the learning process.

Participation in this important project is associated with a deductible of 200 euros, the remaining costs are covered by the state of Tyrol. Interested parties can apply on the website of Promemoria Auschwitz by the end of November, whereby an application form and a letter of motivation are needed.
