Courageous citizens: How civil courage in Innsbruck revealed crimes
in Innsbruck took place for citizens who have provided valuable help with their courage and vigilance of the police. The awards were handed over by Governor Anton Mattle in the country house, with the President of the Safe Austria (KSÖ), Mag. Hermann Petz, as well as other high -ranking civil servants. The event was musically framed by a saxophone quartet of the Tyrol.
The celebrated people are an impressive example of how civil courage works. In a total of 14 incidents, eight women and ten men show great commitment by transmitting precisely information to the police. "The security in our country depends largely on the cooperation between the police and other public organizations, the economy and last but not least to the population," said Mag. Hermann Petz during his speech. This makes it clear how important the vigilance of the citizens is to prevent crimes and to support the police in their investigations.
examples of civil courage
A remarkable campaign occurred on July 5, 2024 in the BTV branch on Innsbrucker Mitterweg, where there was a bank robbery. Sebastian Kaufmann discovered a fleeing person on his way to work and suspected that an attack had taken place. He acted quickly and followed the suspect on his bike. He received support from Yasaman Mosahebifard, who also saw the perpetrator on the run and noticed how he threw his mask over a railing. Kaufmann immediately informed a passing police patrol, which led to the arrest of the perpetrator. This could be assigned to a total of five bank raids in the region.
Another example took place on May 10, 2024 when a seller watched a man stealing a jacket. Although the perpetrator was initially able to flee, Leonhard Baldemair followed him undeterred and gave the police members important information about his whereabouts. This brave commitment led to a arrest in a shop where the perpetrator committed further thefts. Thanks to the vigilance of Baldemair, the officials were able to successfully conclude the investigation.
The commitment of these citizens shows how everyone can contribute to security through attention and quick action. At a time when trust in the police and the authorities are often questioned, such acts are a strong sign of solidarity and coexistence in the community. These awards illustrate the important role that every citizen plays in the prevention and investigation of crimes.
