Peace art in Bad Ischl: 28 artists set bright signs!
Bad Ischl, Österreich - A strong sign of peace and art is set in Bad Ischl. As part of the Capital of Culture in Europe Salzkammergut 2024, the exhibition "Peace Now! The Artist’s Voice" is launched by the renowned exhibition organizer Peter Nover. Here, 28 important artists, including names like Marina Abramović and Jenny Holzer, present their individual manifestos in the form specially designed for the exhibition. These can be seen in the cloister of the folk art museum and invite you to reflect on the role of art in times of conflicts and unrest. Like ORF TIROL reports, visitors integrate the so -called "peace light bulbs" into a sculptural light installation in order to symbolically illuminate the space for peace and actively shape it. These light bulbs are available at the Museumskassa.
The message of the artists
The works of art and posters serve not only as an expression of current artistic positions, but also as a platform for free thinking and alternative perspectives. "Art is one of the manifestations of the principle of creation in the universe. The war, on the other hand, is a destructive force against creation," explains the American artist Kiki Smith. The exhibition creates space for profound reflection, the "peace dust" as a neon object is another symbolic element, which underlines the urgency of this contemporary initiative, such as Salzkammergut 2024 determined.
in a world in which war and nationalism are still strongly present, the artists demand that this must not be the inheritance of future generations. Anish Kapoor addresses the concern about the fallen victims and demands that violence and oppression must be replaced by peaceful solutions. The vernissage of this important installation stimulates to think about the responsibility of art and shows how it can be used as a powerful instrument of change. Peter Noever emphasizes: "The task of art is not to present any interests or ideology - their strength and meaning lies in the radicality of thinking."
