Burner motorway in chaos: Mega construction site ensures lengthy traffic jams!
Brenner, Italien - The Brenner Autobahn (A13) has been a MEGA construction site since January 1, 2025, which will last for several years. The reason for this is necessary renovation work on the busy Lueg Bridge in the Wipptal, which for security reasons must first be relieved and then renovated. During the construction period, only a single -lane traffic is allowed in both directions, which leads to considerable loss of time. Motorists have to take a traffic jam and recommend the Austrian Autobahngesellschaft (ASFINAG) to consider large-scale bypasses, as stated in the report of ADAC
extensive construction work by 2030
The Lueg Bridge is the longest bridge in the A13 and is about to its 55th birthday. Since the building has reached the end of its lifespan, comprehensive measures are necessary. In the first step, a new bridge with two lanes will be built in parallel to the existing bridge, which is expected to be completed by 2030. After completing this work, traffic is to be guided over the new bridge before the old bridge is torn down.
In order to minimize traffic chaos, special driving bans for truck have been introduced. On certain heavily frequented days, traffic can even be led in two lanes. This is done by a clever detour of the heavy vehicles in order not to burden the existing bridge excessively. Asfinag also intends to block the descents on nearby side routes to relieve the surrounding communities, as ORF TIROL . The construction site thus becomes a central topic for all travelers from and from Italy who are dependent on the burner highway.
