Tanrimis before switching to NK Maribor: Waiting for new challenges!
Maribor, Slowenien - The Slovenian Football Association NK Maribor is about to switch to the coaching bench. According to reports from several Slovenian media, Tugberk Tanrimermis, who is currently a coach at SKN St. Pölten, is to succeed. At the moment, Tanrimis is expected to leave St. Pölten on June 30, 2025 and hire in Maribor. He has played a total of 19 games with the team since his takeover in October 2024.
The NK Maribor, which is currently taking second place in the Slovenska Nogometna League, is known as the most successful association in Slovenia. With 16 championships and nine cup victories, the club has an impressive track record. Maribor is currently taking part in the qualification for the UEFA Europa Conference League, which offers the opportunity to work on an international stage.
The challenge in Maribor
Maribor has had difficulties in recent years to qualify for the group phase of an international competition. The club has been unsuccessful in this area since the 2017/18 season and was eliminated last season in the third qualification round of the UEFA Conference League. Previously, they were able to move into the Champions League in 2014/15 and 2017/18, but failed both times in the group phase.
The team now meets Botev Plovdiv on July 18, 2024 in the second leg of the first qualification round for the UEFA Europa League. In the first leg Maribor had to give up 2-1, which increases the pressure on the team, in the home stadium Ljudski VRT, which offers a capacity of 12,702 places, to shine.
expectations and statistics
As far as the statistics are concerned, Maribor has not won a game in the last five encounters against Bulgarian teams, while in their last eight home games in European qualifications and no goal could score in six of these games. This is a significant challenge for the new trainer. According to Sportskeeda, it is assumed that Maribor could get a draw against Botev because both teams are under pressure.
The association was founded on December 12, 1960 and meets immense expectations from its fans. President Drago Cotar and head coach Damir Krznar have high hopes that Tanrimis will bring a fresh air to the team. It remains to be seen how the collaboration will develop and whether Maribor with his new manager can get the urgently needed success on the international parquet.
