Sylt becomes safer: Clubs put on Safe Places at Pentecost!
After the racist incidents in the club pony on Sylt last year, an Initiative was launched to make nightlife safer. Managing Director Tom Kinder announced that the club will set up two “Safe Places” at Pentecost 2025, where employees are available to offer support if guests feel uncomfortable or observe problematic situations. Children expect numerous celebrations from all over Germany in Kampen at Pentecost and is optimistic that the incident from last year was an isolated case.
In May 2024, racist slogans were roared in the bar in Kampen in Kampen, which led to an investigation into sedition. A video of the incident went viral, and the Flensburg public prosecutor's office has hired the investigation against three of the four people involved. A penalty order was requested against a 26-year-old. Despite these incidents, children emphasized that the club does not want to attract an audience who represents extremist ideas.
initiatives for a safe nightlife
The problem of discrimination in nightlife is not new. Frequent incidents, such as offensive addresses and attacking behavior, make it necessary to create a safe environment. For this reason, the Pop specialist office and the Safe The Dance initiative have developed an awareness guide for clubs and festivals. This guide aims to make nightlife more inclusive and also to combat discrimination.
The guidelines offer clubs, collectives and organizers tools to promote respectful and considerate handling. Workshops and lectures on topics such as gender equality, diversity and intersectionality were created to raise awareness of these topics. A digital think tank for awareness and diversity was also founded to promote the exchange between creative and organizers.
feedback and challenges
The feedback on the Awareness guidelines was mostly positive, but the publication in a phase of club closings was perceived as unhappy. Due to crises and lack of staff, many companies could not deal intensively with the guide. Nevertheless, there is a recognizable interest in the Munich pop scene in order to raise a new awareness of the topics of diversity and discrimination. Club operators, personnel and creative people have the opportunity to act as multipliers and to promote the process to create a so -called "safe space".
The efforts to promote safe and inviting nightlife are an important step to combat discrimination. These initiatives are not only important for guests, but also for the entire night culture in Germany, which should promote respectful coexistence. More and more club operators recognize the need to create an inclusive and safe environment in which everyone is welcome.
