SV Ried says goodbye to injury bad luck and master celebration!

In the last game of the 2022/23 season in Admiral 2nd League, SV Guntamatic Ried and First Vienna FC 1894 separated with a 1-1 draw. This result took place on May 26, 2025 in the sold -out Innviertel Arena. The encounter was special for the Rieder because they had already secured the championship title and the promotion to the Bundesliga. Despite the positive overall balance sheet, the game was shaped by serious bad luck.

Already before the kick -off, several SV Ried players were adopted, while the guests of First Vienna FC formed a trellis for the master and the home fans presented an impressive choreography. But there were several injury -related substitutions early in the game. Ante Bajic was replaced in the 11th minute because he had been fighting pain for a long time. David Berger came into play for him. Just a few minutes later, in the 19th minute, captain Philipp Pomer injured himself at a foul at the stand and also had to leave the field.

series of injuries in the game

The series of injuries continued when the best scorer of the Rieder, Wilfried Eza, had to be replaced in the 25th minute due to an injury. Nik Marinsek replaced Eza. The situation continued to escalate when David Bumberger, who was substituted shortly after Pomer, also had to get off the pitch. This meant that Ried had to play outnumbered until half -time. The coach Michael Sollbauer regretted regret about the bad luck and hopes for a quick recovery of the players.

The second half brought no further injuries, but the use of Dean Titkov after a foul was a scene of the game that caused excitement. Despite the adverse circumstances, Ried was able to take the lead in the 60th minute through a goal by Michael Sollbauer. However, the joy lasted briefly, since Bernhard Luxbacher equalized for the guests in the 89th minute and sealed the final result of 1: 1.

Farewell and master celebration

Despite the draw, the team celebrated the fixed promotion to the Bundesliga and the players Pomer and Bumberger received their master's medals on crutches. Trainer Mehmet Sütcü from First Vienna FC emphasized that the game was not unfair and both teams fought intensively. The Rieder are optimistic that their injured players will be fit again by the start of the upcoming Bundesliga season.

The numerous number of injuries also throws a light on the current discussion about the causes of injury in football. According to a review of the Bundesliga season, there are frequent reasons for default from clearly definable injuries, with muscle injuries being the most common type of failures. Teams like Ried must therefore make sure to prepare their players optimally in order to avoid similar problems in the coming season.
