Steinlechner falls back: Tyrolean golf star with great prize money!
Kitzbühel, Österreich - On June 1, 2025, the Austrian Golf Open came to an exciting tournament course, which was, however, characterized by changeable weather conditions. The Tyrolean golfer Stefan Steinlechner fought on the final day, but could not hold its previous level. He played a 72 round and fell back to the 22nd place from the 7th. Steinlechner said that he was not dissatisfied, but could further improve his game. Despite the decline, he reached his greatest prize money in his career with almost 26,000 euros.
The results of other prominent players were also remarkable. Bernd Wiesberger ended the tournament on Sunday with a 69 round, but only landed in 51st place with a total of 278 strokes (2 under par). Matthias Schwab, on the other hand, had a less successful day and played his worst round with 75 strokes, which threw him back to 64th place (5 via par).
winner and event results
The title of the tournament secured the German Matti of Dellingshausen, who was able to collect a prize money of $ 467,500 (approx. 412,000 euros) for his first victory. Despite the challenges of the weather, especially the high amounts of rain until Thursday, organizer Edwin Weindorfer drew a positive conclusion about the tournament. Over 15,000 spectators visited the event, which shows that interest in this sport in Austria is increasing.
For the next year, a further increase in the viewer interest could be reached. For example, the American player Sepp Straka was brought into conversation in order to be won over for the event in Kitzbühel. The planning aims to advance domestic golf similar to the tennis through Dominic Thiem and to achieve an even larger audience.
