Snow test on the A2: Successfully master winter onset without incidents

In the night of Friday, the hoped-for first snowfall of this winter started in the area of the A2 South Autobahn. It started to snow on time at 11 p.m. and the winter conditions stopped until 2 a.m. The Unterwald motorway master, under the direction of Markus Bratschko, was ready and initially used two, later five room vehicles to free the highway from the fresh snow, which remained on the packsa with about 15 centimeters.

The weather forecasts had predicted the arrival of the snow, and the masterful preparation of the authority paid off. Bratschko was optimistic about the smooth running of the first winter challenge: "The snow was a test run for the winter season for us and I am very happy that everything went smoothly," he said. In fact, apart from an incident in the Kalcherkogel tunnel, there were no significant problems, and drivers seemed to adapt to the conditions in a disciplined manner.

But a somewhat cheerful incident stood out: a vehicle parked in a cross for emergency services in the Kalcherkogel tunnel. The driver who was traveling with summer tires apparently thought that it would be unnoticed. "He had believed that it was not noticeable anyway when he parked there, but hadn't considered that the entire tunnel was being monitored by video," said Bratschko. Fortunately, the ASFINAG employees were able to lead the driver to the Herzogberg car park.

The snowfall lasted about three hours and the evacuation was successful overall. "There were no accidents," said Bratschko with a certain pride. Even despite the considerable snowfall, the traffic remained stable despite the winter conditions.

In the episode of the snowfall, many residents of the nearby cities such as Voitsberg, Köflach and Bärnbach also noticed a thin blanket in their streets. This was particularly pleased with the children, since snow is often associated with fun and games. However, the weather forecasts for the next two weeks show that these winter conditions will not last, because it is little precipitation in sight. The temperatures will rise slowly during the day, but at night frost is expected.

The intensive preparation for winter and the smooth operations of the motorway master's house met with a positive response. Another winter test run is imminent for the emergency services if the weather conditions should change. The situation remains exciting for the ASFINAG team and the residents, since every snow period can bring new challenges. More
