Katharina Leitner: The bread baker from Ligist, the dreams realized
Katharina Leitner has established herself as a passionate direct marketer in Ligist and offers a variety of products that grow in her own farm. Born in West Styria, she found her way to the farmer in an unconventional way. Originally worked as an office clerk, she found access to agriculture by meeting her husband Andreas. "Through him, my dream of being a farmer became a reality," she reports.
in the farm, which Andreas cultivates next to it, they take care of sheep farming. So far, the small structures and the steep areas have not allowed full acquisition. This changed when Katharina decided to give up her job during her pregnancy. She was looking for a new challenge and discovered baking bread as her calling.
entry into direct marketing
Katharina has been active in baking bread for about ten years and has largely acquired the necessary knowledge itself. "Autodid act is doing well," she explains, while telling a single course in the area of direct marketing. First she started with a mixed bread that was well received by customers. This positive feedback motivated her to constantly expand your product range. To ensure that every new recipe meets the high standards, it invests in development for up to six months.
The highlight of her work was the Christkindlmarkt in Ligist 2018, where it could present her first bread and other farm products. Since then, the selection has grown to twelve different types of bread and small pastries. In addition, other products thrive on your large fruit and vegetable garden, including jams, pickled vegetables as well as syrups and vinegar.
a typical working day
Katharina's day begins exceptionally early: four times a week it gets up at 0:30 a.m. "Baking takes between three and five hours," she describes her morning process. After baking, the packaging and billing follows before it delivers its products. In addition to her farm shop, she also sells on the farmers' market in Voitsberg and supplies the near and fresh market in Söding.
The quality of her work was recently recognized by the gold medal in the specialty award of the Styria Chamber of Agriculture. She beams with pride when she tells of her rye mixed bread, which was particularly emphasized in the award.
In the coming years, Katharina plans to grow further on her farm. The introduction of "Vacation at the farm" and the creation of parking spaces for camper is planned. If she doesn't work, the 34-year-old likes to spend her free time hiking in the picturesque West Styria.
