Karateka from Köflach mastered the Kobudo and Laenen Seminar in Graz

In the city of Köflach, several karateka recently took part in remarkable seminars that expanded their skills in dealing with traditional weapons and their knowledge in one of the oldest karate styles. Through these advanced training, which took place in St. Pölten and Graz, the coaches of the Karate Club Union Köflach will be able to pass on their newly learned knowledge directly to the members of the association.

The coaches Ferdinand Hörmann, Stefan Laczaj and Daniel Steinbauer traveled to St. Pölten to take part in a carcass seminar under the guidance of Sensei Katherine Loukopoulos. Loukopoulos, a highly decorated Dan carrier in Kobudo, not only won the world champion's title in her career, but also regularly lives in connection with Okinawa, the origin of this martial art. During the seminar, the participants learned how to deal with various weapons, including BO and Nunchaku, and practiced intensively over 15 hours.

The intensive training in Kobudo had worn immediate fruits: at the end of the seminar, the three karate checks successfully passed the 6th Kyu exam. This not only shows your hard work and commitment, but also the high quality of the training you have received.

The legend of the White Crane states that the daughter of a carate master, inspired by the movements of the cranes, observed them and combined their agile defense techniques with the skills she had learned from her father. In this training section, the participants not only learn to counteract attacks effectively, but also how to take advantage of the immobility of an opponent to achieve ombuds by alternative maneuvers and targeted attacks.

On the second day of the seminar, the participants concentrated on the Motobu Ryu style as part of the Kobudo training, which emphasized not only the weapon, but also the whole body language and strategy in close combat. This old art of war demands full concentration and was perceived by the karate checks as very demanding. Students who attended the course were already looking forward to further sequels that are planned in April 2025.
